This
course is for the student who wants to learn how to use their
new digital camera and flatbed scanner. Course material covers
most of the common features of digital cameras and how to make
the most of what the cameras have to offer. Students will learn
the basics of framing and bracketing their shots, proper lighting,
the rule of thirds, depth of field, how to properly use the flash
for best results, and how to transfer their images from the camera
to the computer for processing and printing. For existing photographs,
and other features such as OCR text reading and photocopier use,
the flatbed scanner will be explored. Students will learn the
proper scanning techniques for optimum capture of portraits, text,
newspaper and magazine images, and web graphics. Once the images
are in the computer, then the real fun begins. Students will learn
photograph editing techniques using Paint Shop Pro 7.0. During
the course students will move, crop, and adjust images while learning
to work with the available Paint Shop Pro tools. Students are
taught specifics of photograph repair, touch-up, and restoration
of both black and white and color photographs. This class is ideal
for anyone interested in genealogy.

"This 'Scanners
and Digital Cameras' class was great. I am a school teacher, as
well as being very interested in genealogy, and this class will
be a big help to me in both areas. Highly recommended." -Tammy
